World Maritime Day” organized at Paradip Port

  Para Deep Port celebrated the 44th World Maritime Day today with the theme “Sailors: At the core of the future of shipping”.

On this occasion, Captain AC Sahu, Harbor Master at Paradip Port Trust (PPT) hoisted the World Maritime Day flag at the Maritime Site Office in the presence of other senior officers of the Maritime Department and students of Orissa Maritime Academy. Due to the risk of transmission of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s World Maritime Day was organized in a limited manner.

The significance of this day is to emphasize the importance of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to the maritime sector and its contribution towards maritime security, maritime defense and the marine environment. It can be explained in a simple way that World Maritime Day is celebrated to make commercial maritime transport in a safe, reliable and environment friendly way for the economic development of the world.

World Maritime Day was first observed on March 17, 1978 to mark the occasion of the implementation of the first convention of the IMO in 1958. Since then World Maritime Day is celebrated globally during the last week of September every year.
